Carer compensated after suffering serious back injury

A care worker has made a work injury claim after she was forced to give up her career due to a serious back injury.

Thirty-five-year-old Julie Bowler from Leicestershire, had been working for Southern Cross-owned Rowans Nursing Home in Coalville, when the accident took place.

Mrs Bowler and another colleague had been trying to turn a patient onto her side, but hadn’t been provided with special ‘turn sheets’, which would have made the process much easier.

Worker’s fingers severed after using faulty equipment

A self-employed metal worker has made a work injury claim after his fingers were severed by a faulty piece of equipment.

At the time of the accident, the thirty-nine-year-old man, who has not been named, was working at Derek Parnaby Cyclones International Ltd, in Chilton Industrial Estate in Ferryhill, County Durham.

He had been contracted to work at the firm’s premises and was using a band saw, which had been provided by the company.

The firm had given the man training for using the band saw, which included instructions on how to reach beyond the blade to make adjustments. However, the saw had not been provided with a blade protector and as he was adjusting the tool, he stumbled and his hand fell onto the blade.

Fairground attendant injured after being thrown from ride

A fairground ride operator has been fined after a worker issued an injury claim, due to sustaining serious injuries after being thrown from a ride.

The young man, Martin Brown, had been working for Elliot Crow, of ride owners Alan Crow Amusements, as a ride attendant on the Crazy Frog Ride, when the accident occurred.

Darlington Magistrates’ Court heard the ride was one of several set up at the Morrisons store car park in Galgate, Barnard Castle for the May Bank Holiday Fair in 2010.

Worker compensated after falling down an unmarked manhole

A contractor has made an injury claim after he sustained injuries falling down a manhole, in the area where he was carrying out work.

The man, who has not been named, had been walking across an outdoor area at the place where he was working, when the accident took place.

He had been walking toward the area where he needed to access some equipment needed for his job, when he stepped onto a piece plywood on the ground.
